The George Perkins Marsh Institute is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization founded in 1970 at the University of Delaware and chartered in the State of Delaware in 1976 for research and education in Ecology (through its parent company, MRW, Ltd). What is an institute? An Institute is a society specializing in a technical subject, or a foundation for advanced research, study and instruction in a restricted field, or a short teaching program for a group. Who is George Perkins Marsh? G. P. Marsh was a nineteenth-century environmentalist (see our profile for more on Marsh).

The Institute reaches out to landowners, conservationists, workers, restorationists, academics, researchers, and professionals through:

For some courses, the Institute works with other educational groups, including the Ecoforestry Institute, Rian Garcia Calusa Ecological Community Design, Antioch University, and Dalhousie University.

For some projects GPMI works with other research and conservation groups, including Defenders of Wildlife, Ecoforestry Institute, Greenpeace, and the Humane Society of the United States.
